One way to teach in the classroom to children. And I agree how you (if you are the teacher) are in the classroom is important..are you happy to be there, do you just repeat old lessons, to only think about anything else but what is going on in the moment? But again...how are skills added to emotions.
The quote at the beginning about the key to teaching is enthusiasm, is so true. Luckily, I am given the same freedom Rory Allweis is given. The curriculum is mostly my choice. The benefit to teaching this way is I constantly stay excited about finding new artists and techniques to share in the classroom. It is a pleasure to see my students also research and come to me with ideas. Teaching the feeling of art is something I would like to do more with high school students. Many try to hide their feelings instead of express them through their art.
Thanks for sharing this video. I like that her boss said she was more interested in working artists who could teach than diploma teachers. Also the last quote from that nine year old student - "She was fed up with the way it looks and wanted to do it the way it feels"...makes me think that sometimes we do need to connect more emotion in the lessons/projects we plan, I'm on the same page as you Paige!
Wow! This was great video - thanks for sharing! I loved the ending quote - I'm fed up with doing the way it should look I want to do it with the way it feels!
